Well it's time to get off the couch and start the project and move all the stuff that have been sitting the garage.

I haven't started making the holes for the windlass due to rainy weather we have been having but I did get some of the inside work done.
Decide on putting the guarded rocker dash switch under the Lenco trim tabs switch.
Here we go making more holes in the boat!

Looks pretty good? I can't do the complete installation as I have to run the wiring to and from the switch along with the wiring for the remote.

More info to follow when the weather improves.

Wow! And the northeast boat projects commence!! Nice looking switch installation. Be even nicer when all you have to do it press that little button and watch the anchor come up.
We're awaiting delivery of the radar unit we ordered during Defender's sale. Then Craig will be revving up his tools too.

Installed the 90 amp breaker where the factory had the original battery switch. I moved the switch last season to make it easier to reach while the dinette was set up as a couch/bed.
Here you can see where I moved the switch to. Notice I had originally installed a speaker in this spot so I had to use plastic to cover the hole then mount the battery switch.

Nice but cool weather on Sunday so I did a bit more to the project.

Had to remove the Samson post from it's factory postion to place the windlass where it would be most effective in regards to manufactures (Lewmar) suggestions. If anyone tries
to remove a factory installed Samson post a little heat from a propane torch (to the post) works wonder in losing up the grip the sealant (4200?) has on the post. I was a little concerned when the post wouldn't move after a removed the 4, 3/8' bolts holding it in place.

He is the layout of the holes to be made.

Traced out on the deck. Notice that some of the holes will need to be sealed completely and others will be drilled over size and fill with epoxy then redrilled to correct size.

Here is what it look liked after the holes where completed

I covered the holes from the backside with clear scrap plastic to make a backing before filling the holes with epoxy.
Here is a photo from inside the anchor locker looking up at the deck. A little over kill on the tape but I didn't want the anchor locker to get covered in epoxy. (BTW that stuff is awfull to work with, I can't even thinking how bad it must be to work with that stuff everyday, lets hear it for the fiberglass guys that lay up these hulls)

On the top side (deck) all holes are  taped up to keep the mess to a minimum and thanks Bob R for the great tip on using the tape (why didn't i think of that last spring when I installed the TV Huh)

Here it is all done. The larger holes for the windlass shaft and rode are sealed with clear epoxy. The smaller holes are completely filled using epoxy with a filler (West system  404).

Here is a finished product! Grin
We decided on keeping the samson post so we had to move it off center.

The samson post comes in handy when using moorings.

We have been thinking of adding cleats to each side of the bow but Karen wanted to keep the samson post anyways.

Looking inside the locker. The windlass casting was so large I didn't even both with backing plates.

250' of rode and still plenty of room

With limited access to the anchor locker it was not fun getting the drift key, shaft, and mounting holes lined up. I could only get one arm inside the locker with my head. So I used my chin to hold the windlass motor and gear casing up while I tried to thread a nut on one of the mounting bolts. It's pretty funny now but I did have a few choice words while on my back.

Congratulations on a neat looking job, Barry. I think you'll really enjoy the windlass.  It's one of those things that you don't miss until you have it and then you wouldn't be without it.
Regarding cleats-I am in the process of adding 2 more for a tolal of 6. Rosborough was kind of stingy in that department until the 2009 model. I think they use 8 now.
Snow is gone up here in Vermont, boat is uncovered went up to the lake Thursday &Friday to wash and wax etc.  Rondor is an hour 45 minutes from home so no spur of the moment projects.
   Have fun,
     Ron

Thanks Ron,
I forgot to mention that I did install the remote control unit also. It seems to work pretty well and it will help with retrieving/deploying the anchor.

Looks like the weather has turn a bit warmer. I hope it stays that way because I'm way behind on getting the boat ready for the spring launch. Our marina is open May 1 but I'll be lucky to get in by May 15.
