2009 is the 400th Celebration of when Samuel de Champlain explored Lake
Champlain in 1609. Both Vermont and New York are planning events. And I
just got to thinking....wouldn't that be the perfect reason to stage a
Rosborough Rendezvous & Cruise of Lake Champlain?
Is this an idea that appeals to any of you?
I'd be willing to do some prep work and come up with a proposed cruise
plan.
Meanwhile here is a link to the 2009 Lake Champlain 400th Birthday website:

Hi Tammi
Barry and I are definitely going to try to make that rendezvous. It sounds like a great time!
I saw some of the pictures that you posted.
If possible, we need to know as early as possible to make arrangements.
Our vacations are already set for this year. Both of our workplaces make us have everything in by February now.
Take care!

If you have a time preference, just let me know. 2009 is a blank slate for me. The water here is pretty cold up until the beginning of July, so I'd think July or August would be the months to pick from.

Hi Tammi
Barry and I usually try to get the 3rd week of July and the second week of August for our vacations. A little warmer then. Would something like this be ok? Thanks!

Well let's pencil in those dates then and fine tune as time goes on.

Tammi.... this is pretty good (the site) but it may crimp the other 246 group....  monitor both.... just an observation.

Champlain looks great... my suggestion is if you are the "wagon master" just set it up and let everyone else set their schedule to yours... just give us plenty of time to do so.

Yep, I'm going to just let some time pass before settling on a firm date for the Lake Champlain Rendezvous. Don't know my own schedule for 2009 yet!

This Maptech chart book pretty much covers the waters I'd like to include in our cruise but doesn't go quite far enough south. I'd like to start off at the northern end of the Champlain Canal down in Whitehall, NY. Whitehall has a nice town wall where we could all meet and assemble. There is also a launch ramp there. Not the greatest ramp in the world, but we have successfully launched & retrieved there.

Your wish is my command.  Tongue  Even if I have to master Abenaki for you. But be warned - I'll be expecting fluent Nipmuck and Narraganset from you when we come cruise your area.

Oh Boy......I'm in trouble. I have a tough time with English.

Tell me Tammi would a cruise on Lake Champlain bring us to this destination below?
Sure would. This anchorage is over on the NY side of the lake (just south of the town of Westport) and is tucked in behind Cole Island. Pretty spot, eh?

Also what is the water temperature in August on the Lake?
Water is in the upper 70s by August I think. Whatever it is, it is comfortable by then. Pretty nice in July too....but in June it is still in the 60's.

So glad to hear from you Herb! I've been hoping Lake Champlain Rossie owners would want to be a part of the cruise - and I'd love your ideas about destinations, timing, etc. There is no date set as yet because I am hoping to get a feeling for the time best suited for most. The 4th of July falls on a Saturday in 2009. Perhaps that might be a good date for the start of our Cruise and run it through the next week.

Or, perhaps, folks may have other plans for the 4th and prefer to have the Cruise July 11-18. I'd like to start the cruise way down in Whitehall, NY so everyone gets to go through a lock. The wall at Whitehall is good dockage, free and not crowded at all, so I'd imagine starting there on the 4th would be no problem. And I'd like us to cruise the whole length of the lake, right up to Rouses Point. Doing all that in a week means we'll have to pick and choose between stops....so hard!....so this weekend Craig & I got talking about having an optional 2nd week for anyone who could stay here longer.

All that to say, we'd love your input!

Tammi,
I did a map on Yahoo just to get and idea of what the trip would be like.
If I use Yahoo's map it should take me about 5 hours.

How does Yahoo's map look?
